    WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24

    Of its 136 changes, 46 match a change we found in this build’s game files (linked under each one); the other 90 are Blizzard’s word only (marked “Blizzard only”): often server-side rules or fixes the client files never show.

    Today, we updated the WoW Forever Beta with a new build that includes the following updates.

    • Fixed a bug with casters not playing their precast animations and sometimes standing while casting. Blizzard only

    • Fixed a bug with Echo of Justice, causing it to have a higher than intended chance to activate. Blizzard only

      • Developers’ notes: Even though there are sometimes cases where talents feel ‘required’ by classes, like Relentless Strikes for Rogues, having one that reduces the cooldown of a core ability so early on in a healing talent tree made this feel like a talent that was required. So we’ve removed it and made its behavior baseline.

    • Light’s Vigil’s tooltip has been reorganized to make it more clear that the damage component is the only version that returns some of the Mana cost. In the data: Light's Vigil

      • Developers’ notes: Critical Strike damage increases early on in trees are exciting for other specializations, but its not as exciting for the core specialization while leveling, since they don’t have enough critical strike chance to really appreciate it. So we’re moving one of the better talents for Elemental Shaman functionality, earlier in the tree, to allow them to feel like they’re hitting important progression moments (something Elemental has lacked in the early levels). We understand that this affects Enhancement Shaman’s critical strike damage with spells, but we will use this room created to add more to Enhancement Shaman in the future.

    • Lava Burst damage on ranks 1 and 2 increased to be about 10% more base damage than the Lightning Bolt rank learned around the same level. In the data: Lava Burst, Lightning Bolt

    • Touch of the Grave no longer breaks CC or activates from spells and abilities that don’t have a damage component to them. Blizzard only

      • Developers’ notes: This means that Shadow Word: Pain activates it on cast, but not on periodic damage. Distract won’t activate it, you can’t pull Rogues and Druids out of Stealth with Distract and it activating, and you won’t activate it off of Pickpocketing. Spells like Polymorph already didn’t get broken by Touch of the Grave, but Polymorph will no longer be able to activate it.

    Cooldown Manager 5
    • The Cooldown Manager in World of Warcraft: Forever is intended to enhance gameplay by pulling critical information from the buff bar or action bar and placing it in a fully customizable location. By default, the Cooldown Manager is disabled, and it can be enabled in Options under the Gameplay Enhancement settings. Blizzard only
    • Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior, and Warlock are available for testing the Cooldown Manager. Blizzard only
    • Additional classes will become testable in future updates. Blizzard only
    • The most desired feedback for this feature is currently: spells that you wish were tracked by default. Blizzard only

    • Resolved an issue where several dungeon quests were shareable, which granted the receiving player a quest item when shared. Blizzard only
    • Dalaran - Faction adjustments. Spawns are now present in the area just outside the city entrance. Blizzard only
    • Dun Morogh - Snow Leopard Prowler has a much faster respawn time. Blizzard only
    • Dun Morogh - Resolved an issue where some players were unable to loot the rifle for “Treacherous Cold”. Blizzard only

    New to this build - Known Issues 10

    • Banes and Curses do not properly track if you drop your target and re-acquire a target with an existing bane or curse. In the data: Banes, Curses
    • Healthstone cooldown cannot be tracked.
    • Priest tracks all spells by default.
    • Arcane Blast cannot be tracked.
    • Mana gem requires an additional spell to be cast by the mage to properly begin tracking its cooldown.
    • Creating or changing party composition may transfer players to a different world instance. We’re working on improvements and will provide an update soon.
    • Pet cooldowns cannot be tracked.
    • Item enhancements (such as Windfury or rogue poisons) cannot be tracked
    • The minimap in Stormwind has display issues and will be fixed in a later build.
    • Personal Resource Display doesn’t show combo points.

    We’re opening the WoW Forever Beta today with the following known issues.

    • Barber Chairs cause a LUA error.
    • Character friends in Beta disabled.
    • The minimap may be partially off the screen.
    • Waylaid Crates do not function on items with a maximum stack size smaller than the quantity required. This is fixed in the next Beta build.
    • Waylaid Crate: Apprentice Curiosities does not accept Greater Magic Essence, and incorrectly allows you to target Lesser Magic Essence. This is fixed in the next Beta build.
    • Teldrassil - During the quest “Escaping Ban’ethil”, Sentinel Lynessa Duskblossom runs a bit too fast and spams her Strike ability. This is fixed in the next Beta build. Resolved
    • Starshards (Night Elf Priest Racial) does not benefit from the Twilight Focus talent. This is fixed in the next Beta build. In the game files: Twilight Focus
    • Vengeance (Retribution Paladin Talent) can activate off of periodic critical strikes. This is fixed in the next Beta build. In the data: Vengeance
    • Ranking up Holy Strike doesn’t feel great per rank. This is fixed in the next Beta build. In the data: Holy Strike
    • Character pane does not display Level, Class or Titles (work in progress)
    • Create Firestone Ranks 3 and 4 do not display the conjured item tooltip portion of these abilities. This is fixed in the next Beta build. In the data: Create Firestone
    • Warlock pets do not display Mana as a resource on the character sheet, and do not mention the scaling from their master (work in progress).
    • Warlock pets do not display the correct scaling for Health from Stamina on the character sheet (work in progress).
    • Pet Hit chance for both Hunters and Warlocks do not display the master’s scaling coefficient (work in progress).
    • Pet Expertise is not displayed for both Hunters and Warlocks (work in progress).
    • Pet Movement Speed’s information on the character sheet is not displaying the correct base values in yards per second (work in progress).
    • The Glancing Blow chance for casters is incorrect at all levels, and the damage reduction of a glancing blow is also incorrect (work in progress).
    • The Glancing Blow damage reduction penalty for Melee is incorrect on targets that are higher level than themselves.
      • The chance a Glancing Blow occurs is correct for all levels for melee characters, and the damage reduction penalty for Glancing Blows for equal-level targets is correct. It is only the damage reduction penalty against higher level targets that is incorrect (work in progress).
    • Because of the above, the Glancing Blow chances displayed on the character sheet are not accurate (work in progress).
    • You can open the Legacy System with the hotkey “Y” before reaching level 25. Doing so results in LUA errors on tab 1 and 3.
    • Player’s may find they are unable to sign guild charters. To alleviate this, we have temporarily made it possible to hand-in a guild charter with no signatures. (work in progress)
    • Coldridge Valley does not reveal on the map when explored. This will be fixed in the next Beta build.
      • The Cooldown Manager is a work in progress. Complete implementation varies from class to class.
    • Armor bonuses from consumables and buffs are multiplied by Bear Form armor bonuses. In the data: Bear Form
    • Queueing an On-Next Attack ability (Heroic Strike/Cleave/Raptor Strike) disables your spell queue window. In the game files: Cleave
    • Taking damage while channeling Arcane Missiles will fire off a full damage bolt instead of a bolt with truncated damage. In the game files: Arcane Missiles
    • Resurrection sickness’s duration is not correct at lower levels.

    Auto-shoot Bug and Fix Incoming

    We’ve been tracking an issue in the WoW Forever Beta where the 0.5-second cast time that precedes a Hunter’s auto-shot or the use of a wand is not functioning properly.

    Due to a bug, these auto-shots are currently incurring a much shorter cast time, which in practice means that Hunters and wand users don’t need to stop to shoot for as long as intended.

    This is something that we will fix in an upcoming Beta build, hopefully next week.

    Discord as an option for in-game voice chat

    Build 70009 adds the texts of a new setting, “Preferred Voice Chat Service”, with two choices: Discord or Legacy. With Discord, the voice chat of a group you lead runs on Discord, and other players do not need a Discord account to join. Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text do not work there, so the texts send players who need them to Legacy.

    What we checked: Checked on 26 September 2026: no interface code of build 70009 uses these texts yet (the Social settings only have the Discord account link, which was already there), and Blizzard has not announced the option. The client's text table is shared by every version of WoW, so it may reach Forever and the modern game at different times.
